Another thing you can do with turnips -- cut them into 1"-2" cubes and boil in chicken stock (or, if you're me, water with a couple boullion cubes). The saltiness of the stock soaks into the turnips and offsets that weird bitterness they have.(I've tried the roasting-with-chicken thing, and yeah, it doesn't work like you'd think. Parsnips might work like that, they're kinda carroty, but I hate both carrots and parsnips, so I've never bothered to try.)
